BPEC GAS FOUNDATION COURSE

Length of course: 20 days (1 day per week for 20 weeks)

This course is aimed at those with limited or no formal qualifications and who are seeking to gain access to the Gas ACS assessments.

Candidates will need to complete a portfolio that has evidence of 'on-the job' gas experience with a 'Gas Safe' registered operative/company.

The course content covers domestic gas supply systems and includes.

  • Gas Safety Legislation
  • Gas Emergency Actions and Procedures
  • Characteristics of Combustion
  • Installation of Pipework and Fittings
  • Testing for Soundness
  • Checking and/or Setting Meter Regulators
  • Identification of Unsafe Situations
  • Operation and Positions of Emergency Isolation Controls and Valves Emergency Notices and Warning Labels
  • Checking and Setting Appliance Burner Pressures and Gas Rates
  • Operation and Checking of Appliance Gas Safety Devices and Controls
  • Flueing Standards & Ventilation
  • Flue Testing
  • Installation of Open, Balanced and Fan Assisted Flue Assemblies
  • Re-establish Existing Gas Supply and Relight Procedures

On successful completion of the course assessments, exams & on the job training criteria, individuals will qualify as a Category 1 gas operative.

Candidates are then eligible to progress to the Domestic Gas Safety CCN1 Assessment.

Successful completion of the ACS (CCN1) assessment will entitle the candidate to apply for 'Gas Safe' registration.
